Dear Dance Teachers,
We understand you are disappointed in the UDMA decision to not return our show to Texas in 2011. UDMA did not come to this decision easily. We have tried many cities: Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin and Houston to try and build a following in one of the most important dance states in the US. For as many studios that exist in your state, we have never been able to attract a critical mass of attendees to justify the huge expense to our members, vendors and this organization. As you know these are difficult times, and as prices continue to rise, we must be vigilant in keeping our shows cost effective for our exhibitors.
At the last general meeting of UDMA it became apparent that vendors we no longer able to budget a booth at a Texas show. This meant that we did not have the booth income to pay for the venue. As a result, we were forced to cancel the Texas show for 2011. Please, try and come to one of our other cities. We know this means travel expense for you, but for those of you that understand the importance of our show, we hope you will find it worth it.
Please accept our deepest apologies, and we trust you will understand this difficult decision.

We are thankful for the support of everyone who attended the show in Texas over the years. Unfortunately, there were not enough fellow Texans who came out to support the show. Although we tried different cities and different venues we were not able to see the show grow. We hope you will be able to make it to one of our other 4 shows.

UDMA Announces New Dance Award and 2010 Recipients
The United Dance Merchants of America (UDMA), an organization that encourages the growth and development of dance, is excited to announce the 2010 recipients of the Dedication to Dance award. This new, annual honor is being awarded to organizations and/or people who have shown untiring, remarkable dedication to the dance industry and who have fulfilled the needs of Dance Studios and Dance Teachers through extraordinary means. This year's five recipients will be special guests and honorees at each of the UDMA's five regional Dance Resource & Costume tradeshows.
The recipients of this inaugural year are:
* The California Dance Education Association, to be honored in Long
Beach, CA, Sept. 18-19
* The Southern Association of Dance Masters, to be honored in Atlanta,
GA, Sept. 25-26
* The Texas Association Teachers of Dancing, to be honored in Houston,
TX, Oct. 2-3
* The Associated Dance Teachers of New Jersey, to be honored in
Secaucus, NJ, Oct. 9-10
* The Chicago National Association of Dance Masters, to be honored in
Chicago, IL, Oct. 16-17
"We are very proud that TATD has lasted 80 years and has helped so many teachers and their students in the pursuit of excellence in teaching. Thank you for helping to spread the word about an organization which has retained its 'family feel' while offering the best available in dance," says Persis Ann Forster, the 1st Vice President of the Texas Association Teachers of Dancing.
"[The UDMA show] is truly a wonderful way to bring studio owners, teachers and dance vendors together on a positive note. The UDMA organization is a huge asset to the Dance World and adding the annual award will bring dance to a higher level," adds Marcia A. Fellows, CNADM President.
